Travels

Ostfriesland 2011

A short trip back to Toms’ childhood and youth in Oldenburg, Germany.

The pictures more or less tell it all. But there are no pictures of Leer, which we also passed through. Lucky we did, too, because we were pleasantly surprised at what a nice town it seemed to be. Next time we’ll take a closer look.

In Bremen, the Viertel district just south-east of the center of the city has lots of restaurants and shops. It’s a livable, alternative district that is also home to the Margret Loebner Recorder/Blockfloeten Center and workshop — a feast for recorder players.

The Hermes Hotel in Oldenburg treated us very well. It’s a basic place, but centrally located and has good extras and, most importantly, a good breakfast buffet.
