Ah, Sardinia!
First of all, learn some very basic Italian before heading to Sardinia, especially if you’ll be leaving the main towns and beaches and going inland. Knowledge of English and German is usually quite limited, as is the tourism infrastructure. But don’t let that deter you from exploring, because the trade-off is that Sardinia is still “real” and very enchanting.
The best way to see the island is to rent a car, get off the highways, and make frequent stops. To those interested in traditional Sardinian costumes, I recommend the beautiful Ethnographical Museum in Nuoro.
We highly recommend the B&B Dommo Noa in Dorgali near the eastern coast of Sardinia. The owner was very friendly and patient and more helpful than she knows with my attempts at learning the Italian language. Together with her mother they bake all of the cookies and breads for their establishment themselves. For tasty zucchini pizza head to Il Giardino in Dorgali.
Alghero is also a very likeable town, particularly the promenade along the sea in the evening. But there’s so much more that’s tempting us to return to the island…
